TE RAKAU WAIRARAPA – BIRDING GUIDING & TOURS
Spectacular scenery, diverse bird population, decades of local knowledge and a total dedication to developing and preserving the habitat – that’s Te Rakau Birding.
Te Rakau Birding offers fully guided and personalised half-day bird watching tours for small groups of up to 6 people in the Western Lake area of Southern Wairarapa. We utilise three specific locations for our guiding:
1. Te Rakau – features garden and bush birds. Walking access through native bush and gardens with expansive views of surrounding countryside. Some small inclines and hill walks as part of this experience. Click here for a list of the birds you can see at Te Rakau.
2. Pounui Lagoons/Lake Onoke – see wetland birds, fresh water and estuary birds. Drive to stop bank and explore this pristine wetland area. Click here for a list of the birds you can see at Pounui Lagoons/Lake Onoke.
3. Onoke Spit – discover coastal and marine birds. 5 minute drive to Onoke Spit and 4-wheel-drive experience on this remote but spectacular piece of Palliser Bay coastline with views of the South Island’s Kaikoura mountains in the distance. Tours can be adapted to suit individual requests but as a guide a half-day tour is approximately 3-4 hours long, will include visits to two sites and a morning or afternoon tea. Minimum price for 1 or 2 people $225. Each additional person $100. Maximum party is 6.

Pick up and drop off from Featherston, Greytown or Martinborough can be catered for at an additional price of $100 per group.
